Both the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (RPSGB) and the College of Pharmacy Practice (CPP) are committed to ensuring the success of the new professional leadership body (PLB) for pharmacy, which will be built on the foundations of the RPSGB. This will recognise the history and considerable contribution of the CPP to the personal professional development of its members. In bringing its expertise to the wider profession the CPP, with others, will help shape the culture of the new PLB to the benefit of all members of the PLB. The anticipated launch of the PLB is in the Spring of 2010.

The CPP has agreed that its accreditation activities, and its conferences and symposia, will be integrated into the relevant functions of the PLB. Selected other activities will be assessed on a business case basis.

The recognition and support of advanced and specialist practice will be an important strand of the PLB's activity. The CPP is closely involved, with other pharmacy bodies, in the work to develop the framework for this, coordinated by the RPSGB's Head of Professional Development. The RPSGB is committed to ensuring the PLB provides the structure and resources to deliver the appropriate recognition and support.

The process of integrating the agreed CPP activities into the PLB is under way, including resolution of the legal and financial aspects of that integration and dealing with CPP's residual assets. As part of this process, the RPSGB will nominate two people to be Governors and Trustees of CPP and the CPP CEO will join the RPSGB Transitional Working Group.
