The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) today welcomed the announcement of a £30 million scheme for the care of children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions. Janet Davies, Executive Director of Nursing and Service Delivery for the RCN, said:
"We welcome today's announcement from the government, which should go a long way to help very sick children spend as much time as possible with their families. Children's nurses working in the community and in hospices can help to keep sick children as comfortable as possible, and prevent them from having to endure stressful hospital admissions. This additional £30 million must now go directly towards increasing the provision of hospice places and community children's nurses, so that excellent care in a comfortable environment is the norm."
